SEO vs. PPC

I balance the two. SEO is more of a long term strategy for me, PPC a short term… among other marketing strategies like JVs (although I have seriously cut back on them).

Sometimes PPC is actually a good way to get traffic until the Search Engine traffic does finally barrel in…

AND you don't always have to wait 3 months. With the proper niche research and some luck, you can draw traffic in days… Once your site is crawled regularly, you can put a page up and be indexed within a day.

I don't think SEO is a waste of time unless you don't plan on being in this game for a long time. I plan on being here in 5-10 years. So I'll be patient.

SEO is a tough game no matter how you look at it. You can be at the top of the SERPs one month and drop out the next… I've seen people who have held number one positions for years and suddenly disappear all together.

It's a dangerous thing having 100% of your efforts in one area and depending on one form of advertising… diversification is a good thing.

SEO and PPC aren't even the only way to market online… some people do neither and make a ton of money.

Really… There is no predicting Search Engine's… they will always mess with your head. Sandbox or no sandbox. The algos always changing… Their index is updated frequently. Google's PR is always in flux…

After the last major update there was a lot of talk if there is even a randomization factor involved now… maybe even certain industries being treated differently… Outbound links becoming a factor also.

What I experienced could have easily been something I did… It's the closest thing to a Sandbox I've had. One day I have 50 keywords ranked high the next day they disappear. 2 months later I see visitors from those keywords back in my logs and sure enough they came back…

SEO has changed a lot since the beginning of last year. It is not as predictable as it once was. A webmaster would be a fool to rely on Google for 100% of their revenue. I've seen it happen… huge revenue generating websites dropping out of the SERPs completely… what a rush that has to be!

LET ME be honest. Like I said. The sandbox could have been something I did or some random shift in the index… who knows… I can't explain it so I call it a sandbox… but I'm always tweaking my sites… and most importantly:

I'm always trying to get new one way links pointing to my sites. Either by means of article submissions, directory submissions, social bookmarking, blog comments, article/content submission to sites like Digg.com and lots of other things… Links are still an important factor in your rankings.

Some new webmasters think if they follow the book they should find themselves at the top of the SERPs… when they don't, they automatically call it a "sandbox" if they can't figure it out…

Reality is… it might be that there are 10,000 websites that were there first with more inbound links and experience. You have to earn your spot…

Bottom line. Sandbox seems to occur, but it will only occur for crowded markets… you need to work much harder than in a niche market with no competition… If there is no competition and your site is relevant, it will certainly rank well… That's why keyword selection is so important. Choose the wrong keywords and you will get ranked nowhere, choose the right keywords and you'll find your site on top of the SERPs a few weeks later…

Until recently, if a new IM eBook came out, and I placed it on my website… you simply had to do a search for the title and there I had been… but I am not focusing on ebooks and courses anymore. I want to help you to get your first websites up and running - that's where I personally find more satisfaction in.

I've been on page one or two for e.g. the phrase "Automated Cash Formula" ever since I placed a review on my site about it (5 months ago…)… It was instant because my site is being crawled daily and in the beginning, there was hardly any competition for that phrase…

PPC? Sound familiar…

SEO? (Search Engine Optimization) not to discourage…

It's not my intention to discourage anyone from practicing SEO - I probably made it sound very difficult. It's not as long as you're staying away from the hyper competitive niches. Choose a niche in which your site could really help other people and where not all the SEOs (Search Engine Optimizers) hang out and you'll rank well quickly because other people will be linking to your great content.

SEO is certainly an incredible way to get free traffic - and lots of it. Any free traffic is good traffic…

I make money with the traffic. Absolutely… it's interesting to see a commission show up for something odd… then look at your logs and see someone had landed on a page you weren't promoting with anything.

… Someone just did a search on Google.

You just have to be smart and spread your risk by using other traffic generation strategies as well… just in case your SEO efforts are NOT paying off.

Google Pagerank Explained

First of all, Google Pagerank has nothing to do with Adwords… although indirectly I suppose it does. One of the reasons Adwords is so valuable is because you can go around this important factor that Google has… And it also might be a good thing if the website you are promoting has a high PR, because the visitor might see that website as being more important and more of an authority website… etc.

This is related to Search Engine Optimization and Organic Results…

Google uses PageRank to measure how important a website is. It's based on a few factors, but the main factor is how many inbound links (and the quality of those links) you have pointing to your website.

PR is combined with Google's Algorithm (other factors like the quality of your content and the number of times your keyword appears in the visible text etc.) to determine your position in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs)… if you notice the sites at the top of your search results they usually have more inbound links than the ones below them.

Sometimes, it's close because the quality of links are important also. If you have a PR8 website pointing to you, you are in better shape than if you had a PR3 website pointing to you… in essence, it makes your website more important…

If you install Google's toolbar… or if you visit:

http://www.pagerank.net/pagerank-checker/

…you will see a bar that says "PageRank". That bar ranks a site from 1 to 10…

pr

9 or 10 are very difficult to get. Google.com has a PR10… W3.org has a PR10… DMOZ has a PR9…

Those are websites that have a lot of links pointing to them. W3.org is considered an authority website…

It takes some effort to get to a PR5… generally, I think PR5 and up is really good. A lot of people when they are out looking for people to trade links with, like to focus on websites with a good PageRank…

Check this out… One of the biggest things PR is used for these days is determining the value of a web page and selling ad space based on the PR:

http://www.linkadage.com

There is a lot of controversy as far as the true importance of PR goes. I've noticed most people that are against it are people that can't seem to get it right.

In the beginning, PR was designed to be an indication of the importance and popularity of a website, but in true Webmaster fashion, a lot of community members were looking for different ways to get Inbound Links in order to manipulate Google. And from there the Link industry got a start… link exchanges, renting links, selling text links etc, etc….

I just saw a guy last week that spent over $650 to get PR3 or better links from 50 different websites…

One of the problems with it is that PR alone does not provide you with traffic…

You still need to have a well optimized website, have done your keyword research and considered the other 100+ factors (some known, some unknown) that Google uses to rank a site in the SERPs… PR might be an important factor, but it isn't the only factor and it certainly hasn't the weight anymore which it used to have.

AND ON top of that, getting 100s or 1000s of UNnatural links doesn't give PR a good name AND can get your sites penalized quickly (PR bar will be greyed out or reset to 0!).

Backlink Solutions - My review and my results so far

Some weeks ago, I told you about a new SEO service called Backlink Solutions which allows you to get backlinks to your own website easily. You just have to make posts to the blogs which are included in their network and you will be getting backlinks to your websites easily. And not just one link to your main index page but even to subpages. These links are coming from blogs which are at least 1 year old and which all have Google Pagerank. Moreover, you can do this for as many sites as you want!

I've now had enough time to test the service and I must say that I am very positively surprised what an impact using their service has had on my search engine rankings for my main Internet marketing website. Of course, I cannot reveal what other niches I am in but I am willing to show you how far I got with regards to this website that you are visiting right now. In the review video which I have created for you, I will be showing you which keyword I have achieved great results for so far.

As you probably already know, with regards to search engine optimization, the best thing you can do is to get backlinks to your own site using your main keywords as your link text. Then you will rank highly for these keywords in the search engines. Do this often enough and you will be getting a real boost for your sites…! But getting these backlinks has been quite difficult and time consuming in the past.

I want to stress again that the blogs within the Backlink Solutions network are completely white hat, meaning there are no tricks being used which are against the search engine rules. Basically, all you need to do is make a unique post to one or more of the blogs within their network and link your keyword phrase back to your website (I will be showing you in the video how to do this in practice).

This is nearly the same action as posting an article to an article directory and having a resource box with a link back to your site - so it's nothing illegal.

Today, I want to show you about the effectivity of this service for my own website and give you a closer look behind the scenes and a look at the actual salesletter in case you were still sitting on the fence because of the squeeze page. I don't like it very much either that they put it there instead of the salesletter but they wouldn't change it even though I talked to them about this. But nevertheless it's a service I highly recommend or I wouldn't be writing and talking (in the video) about it today.

Their salesletter says that you can easily pay more than $200 a month just in order to rent 5 links on websites with a Google Pagerank of 5 or higher if you're using a text link broker. That is very expensive and is certainly NOT in anyone's budget. I know what I am talking about because it is something I have done in the past, too. And now I don't have to anymore… I can be getting links from over 100 blogs which are permanent and not just rented.

Here's another subheadline from their salesletter: "High Quality, Niche related One Way Backlinks From Web Sites with good Google Pagerank, Spider Activity and trusted by Google, Yahoo and MSN". This means that once you are making a post on these blogs, your link will automatically get followed by the search engine spiders because they are visiting these sites on a daily basis. And the quicker your sites can be found, the earlier you can be making money from it.

It is also important to know that you can make as many posts to these blogs as you want - you just have to make sure that you're making a new post every time you want to link to a different page or different site of yours. In other words, there is only 1 link per post allowed and the post texts have to be UNIQUE - This ensures that the quality of the blogs and the whole network remains strong. The texts which you are posting there don't have to be long. Even if you're not a writer, this will be quite easy for you.

They have about 100 web sites that you can post to and they are across 60 plus unique IP addresses. This is important because if all backlinks to your website were coming from the same IP address, it could raise a flag and get you penalized because that is what search engine spammers are doing when they are interlinking their own websites.

One thing I forgot to tell you about is that they have put a cap on the number of members that can get in to preserve the integrity of the network. This cap is at 300 members and I think that they can reach this any time within the next 2-6 weeks… If you're looking for an excellent way to boost your rankings in the search engines then look no further because this is it.

This is especially true for members of my Niche Content Websites membership site as I've noticed that many members are just uploading their ready made sites without getting ANY backlinks… This can't work. Without backlinks, you're not getting search engine traffic.

But you have to become active - meaning you need to make these posts with your backlinks on a regular basis or it won't work!! So if you're someone who is not taking action after buying a product or joining a site then don't join… I mean it! I am personally very satisfied with their service and with the results I got.

If on the other hand you are making your posts regularly and you're also interlinking your subpages using this blog network then you can be assured that this will be money very well invested!! You can see that it works if you watch the video below.

Creativity…

This is one virtue a site must possess to lead the race in the ruthless competition in the Internet based business. With so many competition and rivalry going on, every method of marketing must be employed and utilized.

It doesn’t matter if you have a killer product or a fantastically designed website, if people don’t know that you exist, it doesn’t matter, and you are not going to make it big. Worse of all, you business could just get killed.

Viral Marketing Overview

Viral Marketing also known otherwise as Viral Advertising is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s product or company. They use many forms of media to reach out to the public without actually promoting the product by riding on in other forms of addictive means that could get a person hooked and be obliged or amused to actually pass it on, with the product or company advertisement along with it.

In a nutshell, companies ride on the idea that if people like the content of a media they will pass it on to their friends and family. They sponsor the certain media, such as a cool flash game, funny video, amusing story and such, which one may pass on to another with the company brand or logo or the products description or any other content to help promote the company or its product.

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because they are relatively low cost. To avoid being tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pas on the product. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open it as well.

Many companies offer incentives such as discounts and rebates when they help in spreading their viral marketing. They rely on the number of recipients a viral marketing gets from one person in determining the amount or number of incentive they can be attributed with.

Using Viral Marketing to your advantage

The main and foremost advantage of viral marketing is that you get a lot of publicity and public awareness about your site and your company. You get to generate a flow of traffic that are potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great number of people and announce your existence.

Most every site and companies are catching on to the effectivity of Viral Marketing and Advertising. Not using it could kill your business. Along with other schemes and methods in promoting your site, like Search Engine Optimization and such, viral marketing could easily push you ahead in the rating games.

Viral Marketing could be a sneaky way to get people to know about you and your company. You get them to pass your advertisement along. They are also very low cost that not investing in it could be downright a business suicide.

All it takes is a great idea, a good addicting game, a funny story many ideas are still out there. Create a gossip or a buzz, many movies are promoted by using scandals and gossips to make them moiré popular. Remember the movie “The Blair Witch Project”?

Many big companies have tried viral marketing and have had many success stories with it. A classic example is Microsoft’s Hotmail. They were the first known big company to utilize the scheme and it has worked wonders for them.

Now it’s your turn to use viral marketing to work wonders for you. Act now and reap the benefits Viral Marketing will provide for you and your sales figures.

Review Of Michael Cheney's Traffic Videos

And here it comes: Another review. Seems that every week there's another product launch being supported by hundreds of top marketers. I am one of his partners as well but you know I never recommend products which I haven't tested or read myself. So I got access to the site earlier already and have been able to view ALL of the videos which buyers are getting…

Here's my take on Michael Cheney's latest product called "Michael's Traffic Videos". There are about 50 videos which cover the following topics:

Section 1: Online And Offline Press Releases (5 videos)

The first 5 videos cover strategies for getting traffic from press releases. Michael tells you what to do to get traffic from offline advertising, too, by placing ads in newspapers. And although he explains step by step what to do, he's not giving any REAL examples that he's successfully been using these tactics himself or that someone else has used them with success. I seriously doubt that he's using this kind of strategy for himself (at least not those offline ads). While this section is giving a good overview what can be done, it's just that: An overview. The lessons are done in text/drawing format while he's explaining the steps.

Section 2: Affiliate Traffic (2 videos)

I like the fact he's mentioning that this is one of the most important strategies for getting consistent traffic because I know it's true. It's the strategy I am using the most too and one that is working the best for me to get traffic to my various websites. If you're asking me, it's his most effective strategy too because as you can see with his launch today: When affiliates are getting very high commissions, you can almost be certain that you will get a very active army of affiliates and that thousands of emails are being sent to promote his latest product.

The negatives about this section: While he's telling you everything about WHAT to do with these affiliates and how to make them work for you, he doesn't go into the details about HOW you should be approaching or getting them in the first place.

My questions after watching these videos still would be:

a.) Where do I look for affiliates?

b.) What are the most effective strategies for convincing website owners to become your affiliates?

c.) How can this be automated (if you're recruiting hundreds of website owners, this can take days)?

d.) Should software be used at all?

e.) What would I write to them? Or should I call them by phone or Skype?

And not to forget that in order to get affiliates, you need to have your own product, first… The course is not about product creation so you need to be knowledgeable about that part already.

Section 3: Social Networking Traffic (2 videos)

He's listing the major social networking sites and is giving you the main benefits of using them. The second video is pretty good as he's giving you the main specifics your page or site needs to have in order to profit from these social networking websites. Moreover, he lists what kind of content is getting response for your marketing messages and how you need to behave to get the most out of it. But again, no real life examples given… No details about how to get in, how to add friends or contacts, specifics about how many friends to add, what tools to use etc. This section is too basic to be of any real value. It's text/drawing based.

Section 4: Blogging Traffic (5 videos)

Well, what I like about this section is that it is entirely devoted to Wordpress, my favourite blogging system. Basically, he's setting up a Wordpress blog and then he's modifying it a little bit to personalize it. And one video tells you that you should set it up to blog and ping. What I didn't like here was that he didn't show how to change the permissions for one of the files he was modifying. It was like "if you don't know how to do it, ask your provider". This is a bit strange as it would have taken just a few seconds to show this in his FTP software.

Positive is that he tells you that you need to modify the links (URLs) to make them search engine friendly. Moreover, he shows you how to add a subscription form to the sidebar of the Wordpress blog so you can get opt-ins. Finally a series of videos where he actually shows you how to do things. Bravo! I wish, there were more videos included in this course with that kind of details. If you've never set up a blog in Wordpress, this section is for you and comes highly recommended by me. The whole section is a doer section this time rather than the other text/drawing type of videos which are more theoretical.

Section 5: Video Traffic (2 videos)

This again is a doer section. Michael's showing you how to prepare videos for sites like Google Video or YouTube.com and also gives a recommendation for a free software that you can use to create your very own first videos. And it's not Camtasia or Camstudio but nonetheless very effective and quick in creating the videos in a format that can immediately be uploaded. Moreover, he's telling you what equipment you need in order to be able to record your speech while you're showing stuff on your screen. So basically, these are screencam videos. He's not showing you the videos where people are "acting" in front of a camcorder or the like.

The second part is all about the upload process and how to use descriptions and keywords to get the most targeted visitors who will in turn be visiting your sites if you're doing everything right. Good section for people who want to try out marketing by using video. I don't know why he's recommending a certain service for uploading these videos to multiple video sharing sites. It has a high monthly fee but I know there are at least 2 different software tools available on the market that can do the same thing for the price of a one time software purchase.

Section 6: Repeat Traffic (3 videos)

I liked this section the best because it showed me what I am doing wrong on my sites: I'm not having enough interaction with my visitors (apart from my blogs). He tells and shows you what is needed to get repeat traffic to your websites. This section is recommended even for advanced Internet marketers as I am quite sure that a lot of people have been creating their sites in similar ways like I have been doing in the past. Learning how to get your visitors to interact with you and actually providing real content for YOUR sites, is invaluable and a lesson I have learned well now. Thank you Michael for reminding me of it! Most importantly, in this section he is giving you real life examples of websites which are employing the tactics Michael is recommending. That's another reason why I give this section an A+!

Section 7: Pay Per Click Traffic (3 videos)

Nothing really new in this section (if you have bought guides like Adwords Miracle, Affiliate Project X or Day Job Killer in the past) but nevertheless it covers some very important factors. If you are applying these basic principles which he's showing you in his videos, you are guaranteed to get much better results than people who don't know what they're doing when it comes to using Google Adwords. Not a long section but an important one to get quick traffic to a new site. 3-4 great tips there - for newbies -.

Section 8: Search Engine Traffic (6 videos)

The very basics of search engine optimization are covered here. He's mentioning the most important factors for getting a high ranking in the search engines and he uses his text/drawing techniques again to make them easy to understand. This section also covers the topic of keyword selection and why it's so important to use the right keywords. He tells you which ones are better than others and why.

Best of all, he explains and shows you the basics of a standard web service for keyword research that you need to be a member of if you want to get the best keywords for great natural search engine results. If you're not too familiar with search engine optimization, I would recommend this section as it covers the things you need to know and also shows you which service to use to get relevant keywords for your site (personally, I made my own screencam video about this service 4 years ago already for my "Web Money Marketing Videos" monthly membership site where I showed people how to use certain Internet marketing tools - and this keyword service is still effective in bringing people the best keywords up until today).

Section 9: Link Traffic (6 videos)

This section goes into the details on why you need to get as many links as possible to your site (see, I told you this already here … , too) for great search engine results. In this section, he explains exactly how to structure your links page by doing his text/drawing presentations again. But, unfortunately, he doesn't show you how to add these links to your sites in a live example. This also means that you're not being given the specific pieces of software or scripts that can automate a lot of the work like ARELIS reciprocal links software which you can download for free (trial).

He is giving a specific example of a good and relevant link partner which is doing the recommended things so the links page benefits the website owner and you as the link partner.

Section 10: Articles Traffic (6 videos)

Writing articles has always been one of the most effective techniques for getting recognized as an authority and for getting lots of direct or indirect traffic. The first video is explaining what benefits you are getting from writing articles. And these are a lot of benefits… Some marketers are doing nothing else than writing articles to drive traffic to their sites. This has become very popular as the so called "bum marketing method".

Videos 2 and 3 teach you how you can write your articles and how you need to structure them so they'll be effective in driving traffic to your site. Not only that but he's giving you different ways of having these articles created - not just by typing the text directly into your Notepad or MS Word. Specific types of software and services are mentioned which can make the whole process a lot easier and quicker for you.

Video 4 is about how to structure your bio (author) box for your articles. Only effective bio boxes will bring you direct traffic.

The last 2 videos are about how you actually submit your articles to the various article directories. In video 2 Michael shows you the whole process for one popular article directory. He also mentions how often you should be doing this.

Section 11: Viral Traffic (2 videos)

The first video is just an overview about viral traffic and in my opinion a little too general (benefits etc. - those should be known by most - even newbies). It's a text/drawing video again. The second video is much more to my liking as he's showing a bit about how to put all of this into practice using a new script by Mike Filsaime called Viral Friend Generator .

My conclusion:

First of all, let me point out that it is not a bad product at all - if you're new to all of this traffic stuff and haven't been able to drive at least 100 visitors a week to your site(s). And that's why the course will be a great help for giving newbies a good overview as to WHAT and WHY something needs to be done in order to get traffic. This is something the video course does pretty well.

Most videos are mainly giving an overview about the various methods for getting traffic. What's missing in most of them are real life examples of HOW these methods are being used, what software tools are needed to put the things from the videos into practice and generally more proof that these are the methods that are working for him right now.

I'm rather getting the impression that he's been putting together the most effective traffic strategies in general so people might think he covers it all. In my opinion, though, he would have done better by focusing on just two or three of the strategies and then DOING exactly what he's been mentioning in the videos because that is a major shortcoming of many of the included videos (not of all videos, though…).

90% of the videos consist of text, his explanations and his drawings where he's explaining the sections. While this can be effective to remember what needs to be done, I guess most people still would have problems putting everything into perspective and knowing HOW to do it and what tools to use to get it accomplished.

Should you buy Michael's Traffic Videos?

That depends. For beginners, generally speaking "yes" - I am quite sure that you will discover quite a few gold nuggets in them. These videos are really good in giving you an overview and telling you WHY you should be using the techniques or why they work and in some videos he's even showing you WHAT to do. I am recommending them if you're a "newbie".

For an in depth step-by-step plan, 75% of the videos are too general in their nature and would leave people clueless as to what to do or HOW to do it (e.g. the affiliate section or the social networking section). And for advanced Internet marketers, the videos are not recommended at all. You would not find anything new in it if you've read several ebooks on these topics already.

==> Nevertheless, the videos are giving you the best techniques for getting lots of targeted visitors - so if you want to refresh what you already know, it's quite good for that as well.

If you're a newbie or you somehow think that you will get some nuggets out of it and you want to buy Michael's Traffic Videos, I have a very special bonus for you: I will give you the answers to questions where the videos are leaving you standing in the rain. In other words: If you want to use a technique and you still got question on how to put these techniques into practice or what tools to use, I will be giving you the answers in personal Skype sessions (up to 30 minute per buyer) or by answering these questions via my helpdesk.

An Internet Marketer of that caliber like Michael Cheney probably would not have the time to do this for each buyer individually. So that's where I come in. I guess, this will help you more than piling up the bonuses.

I hope, my review was helpful to you. Just leave a comment here so I know what you think about it ;-)
